Who am I?
Hello,
I’m David and you recently signed up for my newsletter.
In this email, I would like to tell you a little bit about myself:
I come from the beautiful town of Herxheim in the Palatinate region in Germany. I have always enjoyed painting, even though my focus has sometimes been on other things, such as playing the piano, table tennis, or collecting stamps. I also have a small beekeeping business with 10 beehives.
In spring 2021, I bought gouache paint for a school project, where I painted the following painting:

(The task was to create a cityscape using a mix of techniques from Hundertwasser and Rizzi)
For this school project, I watched some gouache tutorials on YouTube until I discovered that gouache paints can also be used in a watery way, similar to watercolors. Being a very curious person, I had to try this out. I had a lot of fun, because it is so unpredictable and the result will be always different.
As a result, for my birthday, I received real watercolor paints that are meant to be transparent and therefore much better suited for this purpose than gouache paints.
Since then, I have learned a lot, especially from amazing people like Jenna Rainey or Ellen Crimi-Trent, who freely share their knowledge on YouTube.

It was through Jenna that I first heard about surface pattern design, which involves creating patterns to be used on products such as fabric. Although I had known about patterns before because I do some sewing myself and have experimented with creating 3D objects (as I said, very curious :D), it was there that I became aware of all the wonderful things you can do with patterns.

I have now created hundreds of patterns and painted a lot of watercolour paintings, but I still paint with gouache from time to time.
Now you know how I got into pattern design and that I am extremely curious. Reply to this email and tell me how you found your favorite activity!
Best wishes and see you soon, David
